PDAtrix

What is it?

The PDAtrix system allows medical workers to quickly obtain up to date patient information on a mobile device.

What are the benefits?

Currently, the best form of clinical data recording access it through paper based patient notes. These notes are made in duplicate and can contain large tables of numbers and charts. While extremely dynamic and useful, errors can happen, such as bad readings due to human error in transcription. Access to data in paper form is also problematic, having to manually index tables and search through lengthy notes is slow.

A mobile, hand-held computer based system would reduce error and speed up data access times. Error reduction will be provided through integration with the MHN DAP, gathering error-free data from monitoring devices while data access times will be reduced through innovative yet simple data visualisation and search software.

Why a mobile device?

There are many aspects of a hospital scenario that require fast, reliable, mobile access to data. Patients are often moved from place to place while doctors and nurses are constantly moving from patient to patient.

How does it work?

The system uses the Java MIDP platform, providing interoperability with a large range of mobile devices. The PDAtrix system provides a front end interface for the clinical profession tailored to their speciality. It provides secure communications using the same network as the DAP or other medical information networks, also ensuring that no sensitive data is never stored on the mobile device.

MHN will provide localized customization of the system, working alongside the medical professional and incorporating task specific functionality as per their daily needs.
